universal theme: loyalty and courage

Chapter: 23 Phoebe saves Holden

Character
Phoebe. We chose her because she made a very good action, only to save his brother. not many 8 year old girls would've taken the risk of telling her mother thst she was smoking only with the purpose of saving her older brother.

Plot: Holden was kicked out from Pencey and his parents were not supposed to know that, but he missed a lot her little sister Phoebe, so taking the big risk of getting caught, he goes to his house to visit her. After walking very slowly to Phoebe's room, he got there, and before he woke up his little sister, he smoked a cigarette inside Phoebe's room. The mother of Holden got home so he went to see her little daughter, Phoebe, and when she got there's, Holden got inside a closet and stayed hidden. The mother immediately asked Phoebe why was there so much cigarette smell, and she said that she was smoking, just to save his brother.

Point of View:  Holden, who is the narrator and also Phoebe's brother, he plays a very important role in the chapter. Because of him Phoebe had to admit that she was smoking only to save him.

Symbols:
The best thing that we can see about the 2 chosen Universal Themes is when Phoebe says she was smoking. You have to be very loyal to your brother to do this. Also, she was very courageous because , as she is an 8 year old girl, she could have had a lot of problems by saying this.

Theme statement:

It's always good to take a risk for your family.
